These are 3 of my top favorites for making apple desserts of any kind. I have Gala apple trees in my orchard that you are welcome to pick a few and bring them to the kitchen, I'll have a pie ready in time for your dessert!
Here's the recipe I use, handed down from my grandma and made for years right in this very kitchen.
Filling:
3/4 cup plus 1 teaspoon sugar, divided
1 1/8 teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
8 baking apples, peeled, cored and cut into thick slices
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon plus 2 teaspoons butter, softened
1 teaspoon lemon juice
Crust (2 crusts)
3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons all-vegetable shortening
6 tablespoons boiling water
2 teaspoons milk
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
The actual instructions are top secret, so you'll have to come and see me, I have LOTS of apples!
You are also welcome to stop by for the day and pick some apples of your own to take home. We also have pumpkins and squash, come on over and see what else we have.
