Although this was for an entirely fake business, all of us here at Deiss B & B will truly miss communicating with you, our loyal fans and guests. We have enjoyed the time we've spent together and the friendships we have formed along the way, but it is time to move on to even greater things. We will send you all warm wishes straight from the heart...and straight from Miami Beach. So long,
XOXOXO

Virtual Virtue and Applicable Apps
Deiss B & B now has a Second Life. I have recreated the entire Inn and decorated it virtually the same as it is in person. I have done this in order to show all of you the beauty and the comfort of our guest suites, and to allow you to chose the one that suits you the best. Please visit us on Second Life and begin a virtual visit that you can easily make a reality. See you there!
Room at the Inn is Deiss B & B's new app that you can download on your iPhone or Android phone for free! You can use the GPS feature to get directions right to our front door, along with maps that display all of our trails and the lake. You can also check out the weekend weather forecast for our area no matter where you are. Booking of reservations can be done right from our app, and you can do a video walk-through so you can see where you will be staying. You'll also have access to some of our favorite family recipes that we serve guests all year long. All of this is yours when you download Room at the Inn app today.

Gotta Be Razor Free!
It's that time of year again, No Shave November is a campaign to raise awareness for men's cancers. No effort is required to show your support, literally. Throw those razors back in the drawer and let it grow.
I've always been a big fan of facial hair, and I know many women who share the same sentiment. If all goes well, Santa might even turn mustache wax into a favorite stocking stuffer. Be brave, show off your whiskers, and support all of the men in your life who have been, or could be affected by these cancers. Let it grow!

I've discovered a great
website for Innkeepers to use in order to keep in touch with other Inn owners
and find key information to make your B & B the best it can be. There are
many resources you can access on the homepage of the Professional
Association of Innkeepers International, such as vendors, forums, trades
hows, other members, Inns for sale, and even a live chat option. I'm a new
member and it's one of the best decisions I've made lately.
What a neat way to meet people who are interested in offering the ultimate experience for their guests. We all strive to do the best we can for our "extended family" and it's so great to be able to share tips and ideas related to the hospitality trade.
Make sure and take a look,
I'll even walk you through the basics in this short video I made, it's
definitely worth a click or two! Have a great day.

Even though it isn't quite Halloween, we should be thinking about getting ready for winter. I know that most of us dread the long months of cold and snow, but we can't forget all of the beautiful things that come with the season.
Being indoors brings us closer, we have more time to sit by the fire and talk, tell stories, and make memories. AND we get hot chocolate and my homemade cookies that are just practice for those I leave out for Santa.
Remember to be kind to the animals in your yard over the winter, make sure they get a treat now and then too, and while you're out there taking care of them, tip over and make a snow angel why don't you?! Once you hear this song, winter won't seem quite so bad, give it a listen...

Milestones and Memories
I feel so fortunate to have spent the last 20 years doing what I love best. I am surrounded by family and friends more often than not, and it is these people who inspire me to do everything I do just a bit better each time. Old friends teach me how important tradition is, and new friends teach me how wonderful it is to learn something new and then incorporate it into my life.
The sound of a car pulling into the drive always stirs the excitement of adventure. I have been so lucky to make new friends each year, and also to have those who become lifelong friends. By welcoming you into my home, I hope to make you feel like you are part of our family, because while you are here, you are. Each time you return, the bond goes stronger.
I have friends who have stayed at the house so many times over the years, I forgot that they are not my kin by blood, but by choice. I was raised alongside so many children who became my brothers and sisters, now they bring their children to raise alongside mine. I am truly bless to have my life sustained by doing something that I love so much.
Next time you are in the neighborhood, stop on by. There is always coffee in the pot and a warm seat by the fire. We will have plenty to talk about as we become friends, whether it is for today, or forever. You are always welcome.

best baking apples
These are 3 of my top favorites for making apple desserts of any kind. I have Gala apple trees in my orchard that you are welcome to pick a few and bring them to the kitchen, I'll have a pie ready in time for your dessert!
Here's the recipe I use, handed down from my grandma and made for years right in this very kitchen.
Filling:
3/4 cup plus 1 teaspoon sugar, divided
1 1/8 teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
8 baking apples, peeled, cored and cut into thick slices
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon plus 2 teaspoons butter, softened
1 teaspoon lemon juice
Crust (2 crusts)
3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons all-vegetable shortening
6 tablespoons boiling water
2 teaspoons milk
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
The actual instructions are top secret, so you'll have to come and see me, I have LOTS of apples!
You are also welcome to stop by for the day and pick some apples of your own to take home. We also have pumpkins and squash, come on over and see what else we have.

My current privacy settings are set almost exclusively for friends only, with the exception of friend requests. I sometimes get a request from someone I don't know, or someone I don't want to have access to my life, can you say "delete"?
I have made changes to my Facebook page over time, mostly getting rid of photos that are not professionally flattering, and making sure that posts do not contain profanity or things that are offensive. I have changed settings that no longer allow people to search for me using my phone or email, if you don't know me, you don't need to. Facebook is all about friends, make sure you know who yours are :)
